swelling of knee at all times
« on: July 05, 2006, 07:30:07 PM »
i am in my 9th week of pt  i had one manipulation on 6/21, but after my pt gets me 100 degrees after an hour of work my knee swells back up and when i get home i find it hard to bend my knee

the 2nd day of my surgery my doctor made a comment "i was surprised that i use a size F knee on you" i am not a big person, but for some reason that comment stuck in my head

could the swelling be from an oversized knee replacement?  i need to know what i should do to prove this.  do i get an mri or catscan?

someone please advise me this is going on toooo long.

You should really post in the TKR section down at the very bottom of the bulletin board.

It sounds like you've had issues with scar tissue.  And unfortunately, an implant that is the wrong size can cause chronic swelling and scar tissue problems.  There are also lots of other things, so it's important to get to the bottom of this.

Check out this section:  http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?board=37.0

Also, read up on the arthrofibrosis course by Dr. Noyes.  There are five parts right now:  http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtutor/doku.php

Hope you can get some answers.

Heather

PS Sometimes forceful bending in PT is not the way to go...especially if you are getting severe swelling as a response.  Check out the arthrofibrosis section for more info on how to rehab a knee with adhesions/scar tissue problems:  http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?board=9.0
