2 months post op were just fine... until...
« on: July 19, 2002, 03:46:43 AM »
Maybe someone can give me a little insight to what may be going on here. I had surgery ( lateral release)just a few months ago, well two months to the day if I think back. Everything has been doing great, minimal swelling, rarely any pain and just a little cramping... until... I was walking down some stairs at work yesterday and intense pain began shooting up my leg, all the way up my thigh and down into my ankles. It became immediately imbareable to walk on or move with so I sat down for a while. My entire body felt the sharp pain because I also began to feel nauseated and very dizzy.  Just for comparison, I checked for swelling on the way to the emergency room and my left knee, operated on 4 months ago, was about the size of a softball but looked like a normal knee, however my right one, the one that hurt, looked more like a canteloupe, rounded out with pressure and swelling.  At the ER I was given pain medicine and sent home after a few x rays and given no explanation as to what it may be. There is a lot of tenderness and swelling on the outer side of my  knee, just under my kneecap and is extremely painful to lift my leg or straighten it.  Has anyone else had this problem or know of anything I can do until I can reach my doctor... My appointment isn't until the end of August.

With what you described, you need to call your os and get in to see him now.  Don't torture yourself by waiting until your regularly scheduled appt.  Call his office, go get your xrays at ER and take them with you.  He needs to know what happened and what it looks like, not a month from now, but now.

Good luck and keep us posted (pardon the pun, LOL)

I agree, call your OS.

Also, try to think if you might have twisted your knee any while going down the stairs.

I had similar pain when I tore my medial meniscus.  If this is the case for your, it will not show up on an x-ray.

You obviously did not break anything, otherwise they would have put you in a cast.

But I would not wait a month before seing either your OS or a Sports Med Specialist.

Thanks for the support.  I have still been putting off going to my doctor, less because of pain and warnings but more because of my finances.  I get paid tomorrow so I am going to try my best to go after I pick it up.  It was feeling better, still swollen, until today, then it began swelling worse, being painful and getting strangely HOT on that outer side.  I suppose I HAVE no choice now and I really dont want to mess my legs up any worse.
