Unwrittten Rules
« on: July 02, 2006, 11:08:16 PM »
Okay my knee has been injured since march. Iv'e been in wheelchairs, oncrutches, through miles of ace bandages, braces, immobilizers, and mountains of ice. I've have only been under pain level three once. Right now my left knee is thrre times bigger than my right and I am about pain level six.

Are there any unwritten rules that you have found? I've found that that not reinjuring my knee is rare?
December 01-Chromadic Pattela tracking problem
January 06- Tear in Patellar Tendon (no surgery
Febuary 06-Paralysis Sprees gone now
March 06- knee tendinitis in L and R
August 06- suspected meniscus tear

Hey Keith,

It's not always the case that once a knee is injured it's going to keep getting injured time and time again. Knee healing, in my experience, takes time. basically, whateever, we're doing, we're using our knees so complete healing may take longer than with other parts of the body.

You are still very young and there's no reason to think you are always going to be in this much pain. It can and usually does get better. I have no magic wand otherwise I'd use it for you. All I can do is offer support and encouragement.

As far as your pain is concerned, have you seen a pain management specialist? Here I speak with experience - pain can get to a point where you need so many pain meds that for them to work effectively, you'd need a fatal dose. You shouldn't have to put up with a pain level of 6. Can you change your pain med regime? Or get some physio? Or see another OS?

I don't really know what to suggest for you other than hang in there. This time in your life must feel like it's gonna last forever. Well, it won't. One day you'll look back on this and you'll be as active as anyone can be and out of pain. Keep your head up.

Take care,

Laura x
