Post Op Worry please help.
« on: May 18, 2006, 06:36:40 PM »
Hi
I had a TTT on Monday. I have no bruising to speak of but a fair amount of swelling now. Yesterday to the medial side of my shin bone from the knee to the ankle the skin went red and was warm. I iced it and it subsided. I showed the district nurse today and she told me to contact them if it got any worse. I have now left them a message to contact me which will be after 7pm when the night shift starts.

It is now red hot and red in colour and painful?

Has anyone experienced this? Is it anything to worry about or just par for the course?

Thanks
Hop

Hop,

This isn't normal. After my TTT surgery I didn't have these symptoms. SOmetime after 7 could mean you get a call anytime toight. Either call back and insist on speaking to someone, call NHS direct or go to A&E. It needs sorting out sooner rather than later.

Teh only time I had your symptoms was when I had a blood clot. It's probably not what you havere, but you should get checked out just to be sure. Better to be safe than sorry.

This is definately NOT normal!!!! I had a TTT in November, I did develop a little redness, but my OS put me on antibiotics right away for 5 days.  this brought the redness down and color back to normal.  You should check on it ASAP as it is not a good thing to have redness after surgery.  You will have heat though, and this will last a VERY LONG TIME!!!! I was still icing at the 6 month mark.  This is a tough surgery to recover from.  I had other things done to mine as well as the TTT, but it has been a tough road for sure.  If you would like to talk about it, let me know.
BEST WISHES

Hi Laura, Anj and Hillman

Thanks for replying. I have just gotten back from A&E. (Only there for  hours so pretty good) I spoke to a nurse who wanted to send out a doctor but I knew all he'd do was send me to A&E so I went straight there. Typical, my car has been put on the outlaws driveway 5 miles away and my finaces car is in the garage getting work done so we had to get a taxi.

Had an x-ray which came back good, bloods and poking and prodding around which ruled out the DVT but I have got an infection   :'( (so have been given two lots of anti biotics, 6000mg a day! Six thousand! I am now taking 45 pills a day! The incison site looks lovely though!  ;)

Onwards and upwards!

Hop,

Glad you went to A&E and they gave you something for the infection.  An infection at the incision sight is fairly commen and if treated promptly and aggressivly should cause no long term problems.

Hears to an a great recovery starting right now.

Hey Hop,

Glad you  got your leg sorted. Hopefully you'll be more successful at infection-fighting than I am. 45 pills a day?! You're beating me then - I only take 42!

Good luck

Take care,

Hi Laura

It was such a relief to learn that it wasn't a DVT, I was thinking about PE and alsorts...like you do!
Thanks for your advice when I posted this. It's what made me make the call.

Your wound will heal now that you have your appointment on Monday. I have a good feeling about this one.

Eurivision tonight! Joy!
