stiff and swollen but no real pain
« on: April 18, 2006, 03:11:05 AM »
Okay. I've had knee troubles for 2 months. 5 episodes of swelling and stiffness - each one worse than before.
MRI suggests chondromalacia and I start steroid injections tom.
Why do I have almost no pain with this swelling? Everything I read says I should have pain.
Anyone have this?

I have swelling with no or little pain...it (The swelling) just makes things harder to do..as in sitting on my knees etc..which of course I shouldn't do..don't know why I have little or no pain, but in my case I think the surgeries shaved the nerves too....just don't know.....

I use anti inflametory(600mg ibuprofin) every day prior to work out and anything more than a stroll, no ice...it just makes all my joints hurt like a toothache.....tried steroids once...and the results...well it wasn't pretty......

Hey
Like most of us I have the same. I use Ibuprofen and others. I also use a cotton knee support alot. I find it helps with the swelling. Stiffness is always there ans best thing for that is tto move it. Don't let it be still for longer than 25-30 min unless your sleeping. slide your heel back and forth if sitting or just stand up and bend it. It does help.
