legionella in an ice machine
« on: April 08, 2003, 02:34:19 PM »
Just posted over on the conversation board but there has been a link made to an ice-machine in a case of legionella at Royal Adelaide Hospital here in Oz.  It occurred in a high use machine in a cancer ward and the victim was profoundly compromised in her ability to fight bacteria.

This is just a warning to keep the water and the water container scupulously clean.  If your ice-machine manufacturer agrees, 5 ml of domestic bleach will frighten most of the bugs that may grow in there.  If the tank is demountable a session in the dishwasher every couple of weeks is probably a really good idea.

There is no need to stop using your machines, just keep the water and the container clean.
