Does anyone know what CIPS is?
« on: March 29, 2006, 02:06:30 PM »
I recently visited my Ortho and he made mention of CIPS!  I have even asked my other doctor, and he wouldn't answer because he said I should ask my Ortho!  My Ortho is a butthead, never get an answer from him. ???

Hi Sandy
Do you mean CRPS?  (Complex regional pain syndrome)

From the dictionary part of the guru site ***Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a group of symptoms which occurs very uncommonly after injury or surgery or prolonged joint immobilisation, and where excessive and non-typical pain is a prime feature.

The patient may experience -

severe and continuing distressing pain - out of proportion to the insult
swelling and stiffness
localised skin discoloration
localised burning pain of the skin with sensitivity to touch and temperature
muscle wasting
osteoporosis
overgrown and grooved nails

Also here is a link to a site.

www.rsd-crps.co.uk

I don't know anything about it really, just remember seeing this link on a post that a fellow knee geek wrote.
If you can't get an answer from your OS what about trying his secretary? Just a thought.
Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Hi Sandy,

I have RSD/CRPS if that's what your OS was talking about. I don't know that much about it as I've not long since been diagnosed with it. I only know what Hop has already posted.

It may be worth sending an IM to Nettan as she's been suffering with it for a long time.

Regards,

Laura

Thanks, I have been diagnosed with CRPS and from what I have read on it I have Stage 2. If my OS had listen to me last year I would maybe be getting along better.  Do you know anything about how Worker's Comp will go about this.  I've been told the cost is outrageous!

Sandy,

Sorry I can't help you with WC issues as I'm in the UK. There ar eplenty of peopel from the US who have previously dealt with WC as a result of their knee problems. It may be worth reading othr posts to get advice.

Take care,

I can't help with any WC problems since my knee stuff started when I was in middle school and rather unemployed, but if you need any info/support regarding the CRPS let me know. I've tried a ton of treatments and things for it, and according to my docs and the PTs I work with (I was a patient so long they hired me), I'm pretty well-educated about it. The best thing to do is to find a good pain specialist in your area, since most surgeons aren't very good at handling the CRPS symptoms.

Also have severe RSD, EDS, and soo many allergies
