Just a note here, I had a stitch get dropped and become loose inside my knee following a TKR. About 2 months post op the infection surfaced, and to make a long story short, I got to sit thru 3 sessions of my OS taking pointed tweezers and poking and pulling around in the infected area until he found the stitch causing the infections. No, none of that was fun and yes, everything did turn out alright. You just may want to keep an eye out for that area, you can never tell what can happen down the road. Good luck...Lisa

Thanks Lisa, that is one of the issues I am concerned about with these stitches.
Back in 1991 when I had my 1st knee operation, I was in a full leg cast for 6 weeks.  I was told that my stitches were dissolvables.  After about 3-4 weeks my stitched area became extremely sore and itchy.....but being in a full cast I was unable to get at it.  I went to the hospital and eventually after I kicked up alot of fuss, they removed the cast to find infected stitches, all red and gooey.  Once they were removed and a nice new cast fitted I was trouble free.

Hiyer Hev

Oh dear, oh dear! Ah well at least the little blighter is being removed eh! I do like your posts, you have me in stitches which is very apt given you current predicament! I hope it all gets sorted for ya and don't worry about what your OS will say, you aren't the first and you certainly won't be the last!

 ;)

Well, hopefully they will remove them next Tuesday at my hand clinic appointment, although I hate the idea of the scar being cut open to remove them.  Maybe they can just make a little nick??....Mmmmm maybe I could try and do that myself......Na, bad idea!!!! Ill leave it to the experts ;D
The scar has healed so clean and tidy and I have been massaging it every night to smooth the lumpy bumpy bits over.  (My bedroom looks a bit like a Sweedish massage parlour at the moment (no offence to Nettan of course ;D), baby oil and baby wipes next to the bed) :o
Ive managed to massage the scar to looking beautiful....well as beautiful as a scar can look ;D

Im managing to do some work today...well, one handed plasterboarding....it will probably take me all week to do the equivelent of an hour's work!!, but at least Im feeling useful again :D

Anyway, Ill let you know how it goes next week,
Have good knee days everyone,

Heather ;)

Heather,
Hopefully they did get the stitch out. They did open me up to look for mine, and each time looked further, which meant digging under and around looking for it. It wasn't fun and I won't go into the details, but beyond that is that now that area of my scar is fused to the tissue below it. I mention that since you are working so hard on your scar, which I did as well, didn't help in that case, it took so long to heal there, that there was nothing I could do. I get alot of pulling there and pain and there is nothing they can do about it. I don't know where my stitch came from, but it was about 1/2 an inch and more like twine instead of thread. Guess the general message is, that despite your good intentions, removal of stitches is better left to the nurse!
Good luck...Lisa
