Hi Bex

Are you ok? It must be really frustrating not knowing what you've done. I guess now it's rest rest test and ice ice ice and wait for your next apt. You never know things might not be as bad as you think.

I can't believe that your PT let you go dancing when clearly you weren't upto it. I hope your OS follows that through and does something about it. Is your knee swollen? I can only assume that he can't assess you properly because of bruising and swelling etc. I would advise you to eat before taking diclofenic cause they can hurt your tum.

So it's lots of Trisha, Judge Judy and Fern Britton for a few weeks! lol, thanks goodness for the internet eh!

Keep your chin up darlin'

P.S This just made me laugh, I was watching Emerdale when someone said instead of hurry up 'stir your stumps'  Tee Hee

Hi Hop

My next appointment with OS is in 6 weeks. Hopefully by then everything should have calmed down.  When i dislocated it at dancing i wasnt even going to go to A&E was just gonna go home and get a bath. Kinda glad i didn't :)

It was a senior physio that let me go back dancing which a bit worrying but not sure if it's my fault. I kept asking when i could go back dancing. He was probably that fed up of me going on that he just agreed to let me go to shut me up!!!!!

Although...... The physio I have at the moment is absolutely stunning so i have a smile on my face every time I go.  If there is one good thing about this it's seeing him once a week for the next few month he he he!!!!

I'm sure things will make more sense when i see OS again but must make sure PT knows what's going on.  He seemed to think i would be in leg strengthening classes in a couple of weeks.   hhhmmmmm  I dont think so.

I see PT on Monday. hmm cant wait tee hee hee.

My OS told me to get a static bike and go on it once a day for 5 minutes with no resistance.  Just put it together tonight and managed about a minute before it started hurting.  This is going to be a slow process.

I might be reading too much into this, but during my OS appointment he were talking about something or other and then said 'those screws aren't a problem we'll get them out'. Now they are really gross you can see them sticking out of my shin :( not sure if he is going to do that whilst he does something else.  Am I just freaking out about nothing.  The way i feel i cant see this healing on its own.  I'm sure he's gonna say more surgery I am now going to be worring for the next 6 weeks.  Why didnt i ask when I saw him.  damn.

I have been off work resting for 1 days and it's already driving me nuts. Need to be at work but i know it wont help me.  feeling pretty crappy again.

Here we go feeling sorry for my self again.

OK going now, watching the highlights of comonwealth games.  Good timing to be off sick :)

Take care

Bex

Hiyer Bex

I hope you are feeling a little better today. Don't worry about the screw removal loads of people have them taken out and apparentely it's an easy procedure that has no recovery really, just a little tender. Stop thinking the worst (I sound like my mum!!!)otherwise you'll be a nervous wreck for the next 6 weeks. If you are that worried you can always phone his secretary?

The commonwealth games sure beats Trisha and Judge Judy! Tee Hee. Hopefully using the bike will help just take it easy to start with, you'll soon build it up again. Have you thought about swimming?

Hope you are having a better knee day today.

Hi   :)

Feeling a bit better today. Boss phoned me to see if was ok and i got a bit upset. Hate being off work.  Have laptop at home so managing to get a bit of work done.

I know i am a drama queen sometimes. (im a leo) Sure everything will be fine.  (fingers crossed).  Since i got a telling off from  my OS i am not doing anything until he says.  Think i'm best sticking with the bike. Really dont want to get told off again. :(
I have a crappy NHS splint and one of the straps goes straight over the screw site.  Rubbing like hell! If i loosen it off it falls down my leg. Its really annoying.

OK enough about me.  How are you? Managed to push for an earlier appointment yet?  I have seen your posts on here but not sure what you've had done and waiting to have done.  How long have you been having problems with your knee?

Hey Bex

You be a drama queen all you like, I know I am lol !I'm a sagitarian.
Glad you are feeling better today, hoorah. Thought about your splint rubbing, people on here have mentioned ace stocking to go under the braces and stuff or perhaps a bit of foam on the screw site? Might be worth a try.
I'm good today thanks, glad it's the weekend! I spoke to the waiting list lady this morning who siad that she hadn't received the letter from my doctor but she has put me as an urgent case anyway for an assessment, you know the one you have before the op. They will then at the assessment decide if I am an urgent case or not so things are looking up.

Have a look at the signature at the bottom of this to get my knee history. 1st dislocation on right knee - dancing, first dislocation on left knee dancing too!!!

Speak soon

Hi Hop

ssssooooo glad you are getting somewhere.  Really milk it at your pre op assesment.  I'm sure they'll see you need it doing.

My pre-op was a bag of crap!!!!!  Nurse said I would be out the same day possibley the day after. Nice one I though.  However I was in for 4 days!!!!! I have a thrombotic disorder thanks to my mum so had to have in total 19 injections in my belly to make sure i didnt develop a blood clot.  Nightmare. Tried to get my mum to have the last one since it was her who gave it me but she wasnt having none of it.  Selfish  I think.  I was supposed to be in the night before for my injection but nobody arranged it.  Have the nurses on my ward had never heard of an elmslie trillat so i had to educated.  Physio gave me some exercises to do and OS went mad saying only screws holding it together.  I swear these people both need to know what they are talking about.

Moaning again but...... All these professionals tell you to stay active and keep fit so your dont get really fat and have heart problems but what they dont tell you is by being so active you end up buggering up your joints!!!!!!  Stupid  people.  I will be lucky if i can dance this year!!!  So crap!!!!  Will you be able to dance again after the op?

My head is about to explode. I am so confused

I went to physio again today and was put in a leg class which i personally thought was way too early.  My specialist said I had to do SLR and bike for 5 minutes and gradually work up. This was last Wednesday.  So I go to my leg class and i am doing squats leg extensions and loads of stuff with bent knee.  Which really hurts.  Physio said that I had to do it or muscles would get weak causing another dislocation if i didnt sortout it out. He mentioned VMO dont actually know what that is.  Can someone tell me.  Any how I got myself worked up and said I didnt feel happy but physio said i had to do it.  Wanted to bop him in the nose!!! (oh not my cute physio, another one.  But cute physio was looking good today :)

Also when i mentioned that OS said that I could not go back dancing until he said not physio my physio wasnt happy saying OS does not see me in rehab and I was OK for dancing.  he said OS was blaming PT so he didnt have to put his surgery down as a failure,he said OS is all about statistics.  Now i am really confused.  Did my surgery fail or did I go back too soone.   aagggghhhhhh!!!!!

I have phoned OS office today to find out exactly what damage i have done so I can rely it back to PT on Thursday as I am sure I am not telling him what i have done properly. PT said i have probably pulled it but I would have thought acute patella dislocation would have torn something? Maybe? oh i dont know so confused.

Please can anyone give me anymore advice.  I am going nuts

Thanks

Bex

Bex

Sorry you are having to deal with all of this.  Your VMO is the vastus medialis obliquus, it is the quad muscle on the medial side of your knee and is one of the main supports to hold your kneecap in place.  I would find out if your OS thinks that you tore anythng, but in my experiance you do not always tear things when your knee dislocates.  I don't remember about your specific incident, but if your patella reduced itself then I think that it is less likely that you tore something (that is what always happens to me and I have only stretched out the medial structures).  If it stayed out longer and had to be reduced by someone else, then there may be more of a likelyhood that something may have torn.

I know it can be frustrating dealing with the different opinions of the OS and PT.  I think that it is a little early to determine if the surgery failed or if it was just your muscles.  Try to rehab and really strengthen your quads and see how your knee reacts from there.  It took me 2 years PO to really decide that the surgery failed and that it was not just muscle weakness.  I think that was a little long, but no one including me wanted to say the surgery failed.  Hope things improve for you so that you can go back to dancing.  I would be cautious about the leg class, it seems like you need to start a little slower to build up the quads before starting with the harder exercises.
