if you get this extra cartilage removed you can do whatever you want with it! grow it use it keep it in a jar i dont care, i just want it out!  if he removes the synovium it will get rid of it temporarily at least, but it is about 50:50 whether it will come back  or not.  i just want rid of it, i dont care how long i spend recovering if theres a chance it will get better.  i should get an appointment with the OS in wigan in april sometime, but then its 6 months after that for an op if he'll do somehitng.  im a little concerned the other os thought i had a torn meniscus because the symptoms i explained ive had since this whole thing started, so if its torn its probably annihilated by now.  oh well i never wanted a life anyway!  as for the guinea pigs:

April isn't so long away and if when you see him you tell him everything you've told us he might put you on the NHS waiting list as an emergency case thus at least halfing the waiting time. If you tell him how it is and are honest I thnk you stand a good chance.
50:50 odds are ok too, if it does grow back do you know the rate of which it can grow etc? Or is it a subject that is totally out threre?

it can grow back within a few months, of be fine for years before it begins to grow back. to be honest im more worried about it urning cancerous.  theres only like 20 reported cases of it turning cancerous, but then theres only like 20 reported cases of it in children and i had it when i was 10.  so im a little worried.  i know its stupidly unlikely, but if you do get it its a cut off your leg approach, not conservative at all! 
today i was walking into uni and it collapsed on me, then i got to uni and it locked. it locked last night aswell.  its awful, and the painkillers are silly, but theyre the only ones that work.  overall not agood day, but not the worst its been.  bu ti get to go back home to suffolk tomorrow (im at york uni) so i can see my ponny again!

So all in all your knee has been naughty and rubbish today. Do you use crutches to get about to and during uni?
Also if the C word did occur could you not have a TKR? Would that not remove the offending parts?

What is the name of your pony? I love going home to see my parents they always spoil me it's great. The first thing I do which is a bit cheeky is go and check out the fridge to find what I call 'mum food' yum! Hopefully you will have an really lovely relaxing weekend to recharge your batteries.

yeah i have been using crutches, but i have to walk a mile to get to uni every day.  apparently if cancer does develop there is no option other than chop it off, because its in the bone by then and spreading, not just in the knee joint. 
my pony is called Desert Moon,, or Taffie.  my mum doesnt spoil me at all, but my dad does, and theres no nice food in the house either!  and i start work on monday, in a lab, hoping my knee holds up coz its a very good pay for a temp job.

Hi Charlotte, anja and anyone else 

Hope everyone is having a good knee day today. I have had some great news this morning, I called the waiting list lady who said she had not received any letter! However she has marked me down as an urgent case anyway so I now have to wait for an assessment hoorah! I was down as July so any time before that will be a bonus! Fingers crossed the assessment comes through quickly. Strange thing though, she said my OS only does half a day a week in surgery!

Desert moon is a lovely name. Good luck with the lab job sounds interesting. How are you feeling today?

today is bad, my painkillers are making me feel very bad.  now going to attempt to understand my MRI scans because my copies came through the post today.

we will prob be spending our rehab on here! as mine is 26/6

Apparently that is not unusual for an OS to have only half to one day in theatre - at our hosp there are about 7 orthopaedic consultants so I suppose if they only have one theatre  / per day then they wont get that much time, but they do operate on a bit of a conveyer belt service - the anaestatist prob spends more time with you than the surgeon.

Hope you are having a nice lazy Sunday. Have a look at this link at the animations for LR Lateral Realease and Tibial Tuberccle Transfer (Fulkersons is a type of TTT) It shows TKR too.
Click on I agree then knee and then the different types of surgery.

I'm not totally sure as to what the reocovery etc will be like yet as when I saw my OS the last time and he said this is what I have to have done I was so upset that I didn't take anything in and didn't ask any questions, Ijust wanted to get out and have a fag!!! I do remember him saying about an immobilizer and a brace adn being in hopsital for at least 3 days and not being able to drive for some time. From what I have read on here different OS's have different protocals in terms of NWB, but probably about a month ish?? I know it sounds sick but I can't wait to get into hospital! Can't wait to be able to walk without pain, and hopefully I will be able to bend and get myself up off the floor. NOt walking like I have pooed myself will be a bonus!! Tee Hee
