You've got to be kidding me....
« on: March 12, 2006, 06:49:07 PM »
After spending a great deal of time typing a response to back guru's two posts wherein I pointed out where his/her assertions re his/her original post did indicate one thing asserted in second post (ie not applicable to tears and breaks) and did not indicate that he/she was referring to the Home site, not the forum and, in addition, giving the poster some pointers on word choice as a presumptive medical professional (ie use of word "crap") and attempting to explain how many of the users of this forum  understand that the vast majority of posts are anecdotal, and, again, in addition, pointing out that there have been posts by other self-identified professionals who have made assertions about surgery back to sport time period and debunking a person's recent costly brace purchase that I have found distinctly, what I intended to be a helpful and non-condemnatory reply to back guru's posts...only to find that when I went to post it...voila...the topic had been removed from the board.  At least, back guru's second post had been removed.

I completely understand that forum postings should definitely be removed if off-subject, pornographic, downright demaning to the forum users etc.  But back guru's posts did not fall into those categories and it would have been nice to have been able to give the guy/girl some pointers on where his/her posts went awry in a way that so raised the hackles of the forum users, ie it would have been nice to have been able to post a constructive, rather than condemnatory, response.

[I realize that my first sentence in this post is the mother of all runon sentences.]

Hi Raquetball1,

I also responded to back-guru's second post.  You will notice that his first post is locked and I'm guessing the moderator probably removed the second post.

Whenever the moderator receives complaints of a persons post, she will take steps to ensure that any heated discussion is kept to a minimum, sometimes to the point of having to delete a post or an entire thread.  In this case, we probably said all we need to say to back-guru, so it serves no purpose to try and sway his mind which was apparently made up before he read all the good things on the site.

Sometimes silence is the classier way to get a message across!  We all know how passionate we are about this site...back-guru saw a taste of that.  He will probably be locked from further communication if it incites any bashing or if he has a personal agenda.

Raquetball ~ Your mother of run ons is forgiven (the teacher, retired). The message came across. Back guru is from Australia - Stephen something or other. I did look up his website yesterday from info he posted but I can't seem to find it now. Perhaps someone else bookmarked the site...Ellie

Hi there,

I was one of those who managed to respond to both posts and I tried to convert the subject that he/she had managed to make into a personal attack on Kneeguru into a more 'knee-based topic'. I now am bewildered a little that he/she cannot respond to the post(s). Maybe backguru could have been a little more tactful in his/her remarks but this should'nt allow for the post to be removed totally (refering to the 2nd post) after all there was a growing resentment for backguru that the first post had demonstrated. I understand that half of his/her first post was sensical about the need for looking elsewhere in the leg, eg. strengthening other muscles could help with knee pain. The second half however was an attack on the persons that develop and sustain this website which cannot be justified in any way.
The response then was posted on another thread, which meant that the first had been blocked and this lead to the title being the same and this caused problems for backguru. He/she said they were a 'muscle therapist' and from the name I would think backguru was in fact a back pain specialist not one of the knee. There had to be some kind of give here after all is'nt it called 'free speech'?

Cheers Harry.
