Well,
My Orthopaedic Surgeon who is supposedly a knee specialist doesn't know what's wrong with my knee and blatantly couldn't care less.
Background: I fell on my knee a year ago, since then lots of pain and problems eg pain straightening knee, pain standing, pain walking, crunches, cracks, grinds, shooting pains. Finally got referred to see this OS, thought I had torn meniscus, sent me for an MRI, MRI showed no tear but he told me at the time it showed I had the damaged cartilage. He said I should go for 3 months physio and then go back to him.
Have done 3 months physio - physiotherapist is excellent, has tried lots of things and with exercises my kneecap has stopped maltracking, but everything else is still a problem, and is over time getting noticably worse.
She thinks a lot of the inside of my knee is inflamed, and that I have bursitis, and has written to the OS to say she thinks a steroid injection may help, she also said an arthroscopy may help if the cartilage is catching and aggravating things.
So I have just been for my review with the OS, who bent my knee a couple of times, asked if it hurt, which it didn't, and told me he doesn't know what's wrong with it. The letter from my phisiotherapist was there, and he read it but made no reference to it. In the end he said did I want him to look inside it so I said yes, and he said that he would probably be able to do that, but it may not help, and so I said what then? and he basically just shrugged and said there was nothing he can do.
So hopefully I will get the arthroscopy, but he doesn't sound like he can really be bothered with it, and if it doesn't help then basically I am going to be just left as I am.
I'm 24 years old and can't do anything without pain, not even bend down to tie my shoelaces. This just can't be it for the rest of my life. I know I know get a second opinion but that just means at best I am going to have another year before anything gets sorted at best (NHS)
