Could someone help me please?
« on: March 27, 2003, 06:40:37 PM »
I have been everywhere trying to look for information on a very rare knee abnormality that I have got and thought that this might be my only chance of finding out about it... I have got two knees in my right leg and half a knee in my left leg and am trying to find out what it is called. I am absolutely scared of hospitals and don't know if I'll ever be able to walk again or not if I go. That is why I need to find out what the exact problem is called, so I know wether or not to go to hospital. It has been undetected until now and it really hurts. Please help me. ???  :-/ ???

Hi and welcome to the site
Did your doctor tell you the name of your disorder?

Hi,

ok i am really confused!  I am not quite sure what u mean by "I have got two knees in my right leg and half a knee in my left leg."  Do u mean u physically have 2 knees in ur right leg, meaning 2 patella's, 2 ACl's, 2 everything, and only 1/2 in the other leg??  Im sorry i am confused so i figgured i would just ask to clarify.  I hope someone on this site can help you so that u can get some pain relif!

Yes, this sounds strange to me too. You would think that something this unusual would have been detected long ago, even from birth. Please let us know if you find the name of it. Netty

I am very sorry to hear about your condition, but you have to talk to your doctor and find out what is wrong with you.  If he/she doesn't know then asked to be referred to a specialist.  If your specialist can't tell you then asked to be referred to a plastic surgeon who deals with knees and that kind of anatomy.  Eventually you will find someone that know's what to do.  It's your body and you have the right to know what's wrong with it.  Take Care...

My doctor has referred me to a specialist. I won't find out what it is until 20th April, when I next go back. The only thing I was told was that I will have to have one of the full size knees taken out of the right leg to replace the half knee in my left leg. I nearly fainted when I was told what would happen.  :-[

When I say I have got two knees in my right leg and half in my left leg, I literally have got that problem.

"Unnoticed until now": Does that mean you had not been having problems, but now you are having problems?

Good luck with the specialist. Keep us posted.

have heard of people who have extra fingers and toes, but not knees.

I wish you luck with your visit to your OS and also if you have to have surgery - please keep us informed of your progress - perhaps you could take some photos and put them onto this site - it is very interesting - don't want you to feel pressurised or anything but the double knee and half knee sound fascinating.

Take care

I knew a guy that had 6 fingers on each hand and he played the guitar in a band. He could play things no one else could and fascinated heaps of people. I wonder what you could do with an extra knee ??? Im trying to imagine and only come up with those alien critters out of star wars that walk with their knee back to front LOL
I would love to see a pic too or an xray would be even better. Netty
