Cost of the Osteochondral Autograft Procedure/surgery
« on: February 05, 2006, 02:41:58 PM »
I am looking for the cost of the procedure itself but if no one is able to isolate that charge could someone tell me the cost of the entire surgery?

Thanks
My 17 year old son had the OATS procedure on November 29th, 2006.  He has two previous scopes on the right knee and one on the left.

mine came in 3 bills
$15500 us dollars for the hospital
$4500 us dollars for the doctor
$4000 for the anestetic
all hospitals are different

My insurance is trying to say that my OATS was experimental but I had 4 others they paid for so I am of course appealing but this was the cost of the bills I received.

Thanks.  Just found out today the total cost will be around $23000 for my son's surgery.  Both the hospital and Cole wasnt half down if insurance will not pay.  Needless to say we have to fight with the insurance ccompany about this and can't go ahead with the surgery just yet.

cinamoo -

look on the bright side (it's annoying to others, but I can always find one) - your son is having an autograft procedure.  So it's not like he just lost the donor cartilage and is going back to the bottom of the waiting list.  Once this gets sorted out with the insurance company, his surgeon will be able to schedule him and get him fixed without any additional, beyond your control delays.

ACI was supposed to be 2/21/06.  On 6/29/06 Insurance co said have another scope, and if it still looks good, they'll ok the ACI.
Microfracture Dec 7, 2004
3cm x 6cm lesion, LFC; 3cm x 1cm lesion, trochlear groove; lateral tibial plateau lesion
2nd degree black belt, tae kwon do (had to stop)
