I had microfracture surgery on May 4, 2005 and yesterday I had my last OS appointment.  He says that I can do anything that my body will let me do...no restrictions except that if something hurts then STOP which is good advice for just about every one, not just people recovering from surgery.  I asked him if I can start training for a 9K bike ride that is coming up in June and he said, "Sounds good to me!"  I am so excited!

So how is the training going?  I am 24 months post HTO and this past Saturday I was the assistant referee on two division one college soccer matches.  I am not pain free but I never expected to be.  Good luck with the training and keep up the good work.

Teresa,

That's great about your training.  What kind of bike did you get, any knee friendly pedals?  I do a fair amout of training on an old road bike hooked to a fluid trainer.  Have you had thge pedals fit-kitted for you knees?  Supposedly that technology has gotten better.  Keep up the good work!!..............jim

I got a Electrabike woman's townie custom 21.  (21 speed).  It is a very light weight bike, I can lift it with one arm, which make pedeling very easy.  My OS said not to exceed 30-35 revelutions per minute so that is why I went with a 21 speed bike, it allows me to have more control of the cadence (rpm).  It also has flat foot technology which is better for the knees.   I ride it for hours with out any discomfort.

Thanks for the link to bike site.  I have been using my fluid trtainer and generally spin at 80 RPM and have done this for years.  I went to a floating cleated pedal after discussing with OS and PT.  However, it seems that the training is bothering my knees more than refereeing on artifical turf fields.  I am current gettin Synvisc in both knees, had it in the past on the left and it helped so I'll have to see.  Keep up the good work.
