« on: February 01, 2006, 08:37:02 PM »
hi, im waiting for a CT scan on the Nhs - is the wait as bad or worse than MRI?  I'm currently 2 months post referral and still no word or appt!

Try calling the radiology department at your hospital and they will be able to give you a rough idea how long the wait is.  If you are able to, tell them you can be in at very short notice, so maybe you will get in sooner on a cancelation.

Good luck,

Heather ;)

I'd definitely ring the ct dept and chase it up.  I was referred for an MRI in mid December and I had the scan last week.  I had a CT a couple of years ago and only waited 2 weeks,  both scans were NHS.  Let us know how you get on?

hi heather and jo,
i rang the radiology dept 2 weeks ago and discovered that they had not received a referral for me!
i finally got through to my consultants secretary on friday and after she looked into it she rang me back and admitted the referral had been lost somehow.  She's arranging an urgent appt for me and ringing me back on tues so i'll let ya know whats happening as soon as they know!
it is so frustrating to think that i have now needlessly lost another 3 months waiting time due to there incompetence!

Hi Belle,

Really sorry to hear they've lost your referral, thats not the best news.  But if the secretary's arranging an urgent appointment for you, you shouldn't  have to wait too much longer.  Let us know how you get on.

ok, sorry to rant as usual but i had my ct at the beginning of march and now over a month on i haven't yet had an appt through to see the consultant for the results?  Is this normal.  This is a never ending cycle of frustration and not knowing

Hi Belle,

You could try phoning your OS's secretary. She sould be able to tell you when you are next booked in to see him and may even bring the appointment forward for you.

I had the same problem with my MRI scan in September/October. I phoned in November to find out what was going on only to find out I wasn't due to see my OS until the very end of January. The appointment was brought forward to December and I ended up having surgery in January about 2 weeks before I was due to see him in the first place.

So just a quick call can get things moving.

Phone the department (fracture clinic/knee clinic or whatever) and quizz tghem about this, it may be that they have forgotten about you.

Good luck,

Heather ;)

i rang up yesterday and was told that my ct films came back the previous day(um....) and had not been reported on as the OS had asked - he specifically wanted rotational measurement- so she has had to send everything back to be re-reported.  She has no idea how long this will take nor how long i'll have to wait to get an appt!
Does this sound realistic - how long does it usually take to get reports for films- my MRI was reported the day after i had the scan!?

One MRI I had, the consultant gave me his initial report within a few days and sent it away for an urgent report from a specific radiologist....the report took over 6 weeks to come back :o

Another I had, it took about 6 weeks to get the report abck too...this was with the same radiolodist and consultant.

Another I had was private and the report was back within a week of the MRI, I saw the consultation (privatly) about a week or so later.

Ive never had a CT scan, but would imagine the time scale would be similar.

Keep on top of them, make sure you dont get forgotten

ok,
tomorrow i plan to ring up again.  2 1/2 months since my ct scan and still no appt to see my consultant.  This is getting stupid.  I went to see the GP the other day and got a nice lady Dr - she was very sympathetic and couldn't believe what i've been through.  She said to keep ringing and make a real pest of myself.  I hate doing this but if its the only way i guess i'll have to give it a go.  Will let ya know how i get on.

after my CT in march i did not get an appt with the consultant....
Instead after speaking with his secretary i got an appt for a second CT (she had no idea why i needed this) which was at the beginning of july.  Now i havent seen my OS since Nov 2005! And i still haven't had an appt through for the results from my scan from march or july.
I tried ringing on thurs but it was an answer machine.  I have left a message ... other than keep ringing is there anything else i can do?  I'm trapped in a system not getting anywhere!

Thats terrible!! :o
I think it may be a good idea to get onto your GP and get him/her to write to the OS explaining the situation.  There has obviously been some mistakes along the line >:(

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Heather ;)

Or ring the PALS service (Patient liaison service) at the hospital, who don't deal or investigate complaints but will get answers to the questions you pose.  You can get there contact details by visiting the hospital web site.  Hang in there I can truely empathise with the position you find yourself in having been there my self.  It will all come together for you and hopefully soon.  Take care.  Jak

i've found an e-mail address for the PALS at the hospital i'm with and so have sent a message - thanks for the advice and fingers crossed.  I'll find a phone number if they don't reply.
