What causes on and off intense burning pain below the kneecap?
« on: January 27, 2006, 04:11:03 PM »
Hi,

My wife is in extreme pain the last 2 weeks. She doesn't remember injuring her knee but she has an intense burning pain below the knee that comes and goes in waves. It is hard for her to drive, get up from a seated position.....But even laying in bed last night, every 3 - 5 minutes she would have intense burning that would stay for a minute or so then go away.

Now, she is not active so there is probably muscle weakness and she is overweight. Could this be something related to nerves though because of the burning?

She doesn't want to go to the Dr. and is icing. There doesn't appear to be any instability, locking etc. It does make clicking (knuckle cracking noises)...

Hi,

She should go and have it checked out so that more damage won't be done in the meantime, if something is wrong.  There are also medications that might help.  Go to the GP and let them decide if she should be referred on to a knee specialist.

Here is an article about burning below the kneecap..... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/knee-pain/DS00555/DSECTION=2
