please someone give me some advice!
« on: January 22, 2006, 12:42:23 AM »
hi there - I started getting knee pain over 2 yrs ago from running.  my knees started to swell & I've had problems ever since. I stopped the running of course and went to a specialist. did physio, got orthotics, but they still 'flare up' often.  now I'm waiting for my next appointment.  when they are bad I can't drive, sleep, even wear pants that are snug around my legs!  they go from bad to better in cycles, but they never heal.  aside from the swelling, I get sharp pains under my knee cap & also pain behind my knee, sometimes pinching & locking.  anyone have any thoughts???  I am tired of being told to 'wait it out'. I am trying to push for a knee scope but in the meantime would love to hear from someone with similar problems

Hi there,
I've just posted a thread...
"learn to trust what you feel"
Have a read and let me know what you think. It sounds like you need to listen to your poor knee

hello all  my name is margie a 27 year old mother of 3.  9, 5, and 5 months.  went to os today for a dislocating L knee.  i have had this problem since i was in grade school.  in the month of dec my knee cap popped out x3 and fell x2.  the os tells me i should have patellur realignment.  does that seem too extreme?  my knee is not hurting.  it doesn't pop out all the time.  i asked about knee braces and pt.  he states it could help.  i'm scared of recovery and all the pain and what will i do with my kids????
i should probably get a second opinion huh?  please let me know im going crazy thanks

Hi Margie - I have not have dislocation happen before but it runs in my family - father, grandfather, aunts, cousins, etc.  I suspect my knee problems are as a result of fam history, but mine have never dislocated. I have been told that I do have tracking problems, however.

I can only tell you that most of my family members who had dislocating knees did have to go through surgery. I can't remember the details of the surgeries, but that everyone had success with theirs.  dislocations did stop; however, overall their knees were damaged from the dislocations, so many have arthritis now, some have swelling of knees.  your knee may not hurt now, but the damage may catch up.

if you are oppose to surgery, you could always try conservative treatment.  but I guess the question to ask your doctor is will physio and a knee brace fix the problem, or only delay the need for surgery.

best wishes for a better knee
Denise
