minor operation of the patella.

my mom has just fractured her knee , and the doc says it requires a minor operation. i just want to know whether it is a minor operation?  i think it is a fracture of the patella.

please let me know if it will be a minor operation or not?

Well don't panic. It'll be OK.
'Minor' is I guess all relative. I don't personally think any surgery where you're out cold is 'minor'.
With your Mum, it all depends on how serious a fracture it is: how many pieces her patella broke into, and whether she damaged anything else (ligaments, tendons). My own patella break was fairly straight forward, and I had an operation, was in hospital for five days, and spent a couple of months on crutches. It was about 4 months before I was walking properly.
I'm still working on muscle strength now, 6 months down the line, but pretty much everything is normal. It's a horrid, crappy injury, but it's not the end of the world

14/7/05 fell and broke right patella
15/7/05 ORIF (in France)
19/7/05 leave hospital and return to UK.
7/9/05 brace removed!
18/10/05 Finally start proper PT. ROM at about 105
10/03/06 Discharged by OS
14/03/06 Discharged by PT (8 months to the day after fall)
Hardware removal???

well the doctor has told her she will be out in 3 days, and probably she would have to rest for 6-8 weeks, but i was wondering what did he mean by minor surgery..
