overuse from running or something more serious?
« on: January 16, 2006, 11:05:47 PM »
Hi there:

In addition to my own knee injury that I have been recovering from for 6 months, my husband now has pain in both his knees! He started a new running program and a week and a half in, developed pain in both his knees, below the kneecap toward the medial side. He has full range of motion, and no popping or grinding, but a general achey-ness. I suggested that he make an appointment with my knee specialist this week, since he's had the pain for a week now (though he hasn't been great at RICE so far). Any ideas if this is just overuse or could the meniscus or ligaments be involved?

Thanks,
Nandie

Has he run before? Is the pain medially in the knee or below the knee? Could it be shin splints?

I have ITBS which is usually caused from running and overuse, but it is a pain on the Lateral side of the knee.  Not medial.  Check out these sites.  Good Luck,

It could be patellar tendonitis which my husband developed in both knees after his new rowing coach made the squad start doing weekly 5km timed runs.  He is currently receiving physiotherapy on both knees.
