Anyone know about ankles?! Worrying about husband...
« on: January 08, 2006, 01:57:59 PM »
Sorry this is off topic (a bit!) but I am worrying about my other half. He has a very swollen right ankle that is red and warm. It seemed to come on with little warning and no obvious trauma (although he rides a cycle to work). It's sore round the back and up the front. He feels shivery off and on but could that be the Co-codamol? He feels generally fluey.

We went to the Out of Hours triage nurse who said it's tendonitis (the Dr diagnosed this once before) and to just rest and take painkillers. He has infrequent bouts of gout but the nurse said this isn't gout.

Anyone have any ideas - or know of any good websites to point me towards??? He is REALLY miserable and any helpp would be appreciated....

Hi, my husband has had surgrey on both ankles.  Here are some sites we looked at:

http://www.bchealthguide.org/kbase/topic/symptom/footp/overview.htm

http://www.healingfeet.com/cpcsm-problems.htm

http://footpaininfo.com/

http://footandanklepain.ca/cp/cp.htm

http://www.nethealthbook.com/commoncausesofanklepain.html

Hope he gets better.  There's nothing like a very fit and active husband feeling pain.  I know!

I am certainly no doctor, so take this for what it's worth. The red, swollen joint and the feeling "fluish" would make me wonder about a rheumatic condition. Has anyone mentioned that? (I know gout is a rheumatic condition and it's been ruled out, but I have read a lot about rheumatoid arthritis and the red, warm joints and flu-like symptoms are always part of the main symptoms list).

Whatever it may be, I hope you find an answer soon and he feels better!

Thanks guys. He's feeling a bit better in himself although I'll be driving him to work this week! Will check out your suggestions..... To be honest the anti pain drugs he was on were fairly hefty so no doubt that made him feel weirder!
