Microfracture w/ osteotomy -- help me decide xpost
« on: November 25, 2005, 10:32:17 PM »
So I've been going round and round for a couple months on this and no closer to deciding, so here goes...
I have a 2 cm lesion on my medial femoral condyle and a loose body due to an injury. 40 years old, like to be active run, tennis, anything.
My 1st  doc wants to do microfracture and an open wedge osteotomy (I'm slightly bowlegged).  He's done approx 25 of these procedures.
Is this considered very experienced?
2nd opinion doc specializes on knees and did not give me a definitive approach.  He wants to do a scope and remove loose body, then I guess he'll give me his ideas.  Apparently he doesn't trust the MRI completely?
To further complicate matters my insurance changes in January which means i could go see the doc who did my ACL 10 years prior and who I really trust alot.  Part of me just wants to get this over with and schedule something before Jan though...
I'm at a real crossroads,  thanks for your ideas.        Scot
