bad OS visit
« on: November 15, 2005, 03:08:28 AM »
So 3 months ago my former OS (whom I loved he was a REALLY good doc) admitted he could no longer help me so he transfered me to thsi new doc. And this new OS was fine at first but I went back today after 2 months of PT and THis one told me that he couldn't help me any more or rather TRY to help me. Just gave up. Turns out it is a Hip problem (no kidding) and he moved my hips around and it hurt alot and I was like woah I feel a bone poking me when I bend hte knee up. ANyway all I got was a referal to a hip specialist but NO answers, and NO prescription for more PT and NO answers as to how to mange the pain that THIS OS'S TREATMENT plan caused. I was like I came to you with knee pain and some mild hip pain and NOW I have INCREASING hip pain what the heck did you do??!! I got oh your hip is a seperate problem and not related to your knee. that Is bul if I ever heard it my old OS said of cousre they are related how can they NOT? makes sense to me and all I took was basic biology.

this OS did not listen to me at all I Said swimming makes my hip feel better. I got in response "are you part of a health club with a pool?" I was thiking NO I swim in my bathtub!

Anyway this appointment let me and my mom who went with me MAD. The doc was like have you had the hip checked..and how often do you go to PT,  I was like did you READ my freaking chart??!!

This OS totally gave up on me. Gave me a number of a friend who does hips. I called him. his office was nasty and couldn't make an appointment. WHEN THEY FINALLY called me after I called a second time explaining I was losing cell phone reception I got "yeah well I said I would call you back in a few minutes and that is why I took your number"...nasty said very nasty.

well i did get a phone call back...2 hours later. the Earliest i could get an appointment....end of the year. So yeah I went home and looked him up fresh out of med school. Ha yeah right I need someone with expereince since I'm a problem case. Luckily I know someone who has had like 7 hip surgeries and he pointed me to the correct doctor. And I have a call in with my old OS to verify that this is a good choice. Because I trust him I don't trust this newbie who not only changed my appointment 3 times but was rude and I menioned after the ROUGH and quick exam of the hips that NOW they REALLY hurt. The doc didn't care. I hate OS's...  so now  I am sitting here back at square one, in a lot of pain with no pain med and only 2 PT appointments left....

Hello!
This sounds like the Os from bottom of his class. I don't know how you kept your cool about it. ???
I had a big ordeal with mine and reminded him of his oath. My Os does knees, hips and feet. They are all connected. I seems to me he just blew you off. I would not accept this and call him and tell him you can not get appt until then and he needs to order you back to PT and it is his responsibilty to manage your pain. If that does not work, Let him you would like the number to his acting board of directors. >:(  In the mean time call your GP and see what they can do? I know this sounds hard, but I did it and you could not ask for a more attentive Os now. You should not have to go through the pain, since he caused most of it. I am glade you have another Os to talk to for advise. These Os act like they are The cats Behind and need to be brought off there pedastals all the time. :o Most of them never had an injury.  I have found to get anywear with them is to be very adamitt about things, don't feel uncomfortable about being this way it is your knee and hip. I hope you get some answers and most of all some pain relief soon.  :-*Let us know.

After doing some more research I have found a great hip doctor who is REALLLY good (saved my collegaue from more hip surgeries he had 7 because the first hip surgeon messed up the operation!) and has a great reputation at a very good hospital. THe BAD part is that the EARLIEST  Ican get an appointment is in march.  :-\

and naturally the idiot OS I went too dragged his feet. Had he started me on PT and had me suffer through that. What he SHOULD have done since there seems to be a 5 month waiting period for the hip specialists was to start me in the PT and see how that went for the knees and had me get an appointment with the hip specialist since this guy was a KNEE specialist who decided that the knees were far wrose then hte hips. hahaha. right. the 2 PT's I worked with called him the DAY after my first appointmetn and were like why are you treating the knees? Its the HIPS that are the problem. Sigh but that is all water under the bridge. the point is. I have to wait until NEXT year to get my hips looked at (hey I have been sitting on these bad hips for a decade now what is another 5 months) This Os's treatment made me worse and he didn't even prescribe more PT or even painkillers...so I feel like I'm left in a lurch here...

BUT the good news is the hip specialist is also a knee specialist. He deals in both since they are connected...and when I explained my situtaion to his office help they were like yeah you have the right doc for you. He should be able to handle you. YAY! But they are calling back tomorrow to see if I can get an earlier appointment...keep your fingers crossed!

until then I am gonna talk to my PT and see if she has any pain management ideas (she's very creative with that stuff into the alternative treatments also she does this energy realignment massage that is just amazing) and I think I am going to take bikersmurfs suggestion and call my GP to see if he can help me out. I am sure even he can get me more PT or something. He has been following this case since i Was 13 and feels I am far to young for these problems. But aren't we all?

Don't forget to use your GP for pain management if needed.  And if you can be flexible, ask the hip OS's office to keep you on the list for cancellations.  They happen all the time, and you could get in within a couple of weeks if you can show up for an appointment with little or no notice.

Good luck!
ACI was supposed to be 2/21/06.  On 6/29/06 Insurance co said have another scope, and if it still looks good, they'll ok the ACI.
