knee update
« on: November 10, 2005, 04:08:37 PM »
Hi. I posted 2 months ago when I injured my left knee playing football. 3 doctors told me it was just a sprain until I demanded a referral to an OS. I saw him this morning. He has diagnosed a ACL rupture +- meniscal damage and I am having an MRI done later today. (not bad for the NHS!). Am seeing him again in a week for the results of the MRI. It's a relief to finally get a proper diagnosis.

Robin

Yep I think 2 months is about the going rate before you get any sort of referral, sounds like you have a similar injury to me though I've had the meniscus sorted...just waiting for the recon. Am just starting to get around without aids though it's a bit scary having been on crutches or a stick for so long.
18/06/05 Injured trampolining
Fixed Flexion 20-90 deg until...
01/09/05 lateral meniscectomy (40%)
09/06/06 Patella tendon aclr
09/09/06 Back on the tramp (carefully)
10 years on and still going strong
!!Stop twisting when you land or it hurts!!

Sounds good - I had to wait quite a long time for MRI scan on the NHS (in different circumstances though admitedly) so it's good to see things are hopefully improving in that area. Anyway, good luck with it all and hope your knee's on the mend soon.

funny thing is I can actually walk pretty well, with hardly a limp. It just gets painful if I stand too long or use it too much. Going to the gym regularly to keep the leg muscles strong. Anyway I think the surgeon, a Mr Gunn is highly respected in his field.
