Judo injury-hyperextended knee
« on: March 11, 2003, 11:14:01 PM »
I was wondering if someone could help me.

I study Judo, which is a type of martial arts. during class last week, a knee-bar was applied to my right knee. Basically what happens is the knee is hyperextended to make the opponent submit. I know this is stupid, but it is part of the sport.

Now, one week later, my knee is still hurting. I have been taking it easy, it does feel better than the day after, but it is not 100%. I can not run, have trouble going up and down stairs and the pain is located just below the knee cap (kind of hard to pin point perfectly though).

I was wondering if people could tell me when I should expect to get back to normal?

Will it be healed properly?

Do I have a big problem here? Should I see a doctor?

What article can I read to understand what happened?

What can I do to help me knee heal?

Or anything else that I should know.

I appreciate the post!

Hyperextension commonly causes cruciate ligament injury and sometimes meniscal tears. However, this seems more as though you have traumatised the patellar tendon or fat pad.
