Meniscus Injury-Operation Alternatives
« on: November 03, 2005, 04:24:00 PM »
Diagnosed with a meniscus injury yesterday.† I scheduled surgery for the end of the month but I'm having second thoughts.† Any suggestions regarding exercises or other alternatives before operating? The doctor offered cortisone.† I donít want to rush into anything but donít want to put off for too long the inevitable.

My initial injury occurred about 2 months ago.† It was pretty mild at first, just stiffening and a little pain when straightening my leg after sitting.

About two weeks ago I lifted my knee up high to tie my shoe and I felt a great surge of pain and since that time the symptoms are similar to before but the pain and stiffness is greater when I extend my leg.

I appreciate any ideas.

If you have an injury that will not heal, then putting it off is only going to put more stress on your knee and maybe cause more harm to the knee.

Cortisone is only a temporary fix.... It is very normal to be nervous about surgery, everyone has these same feelings.
