surgery friday
« on: November 01, 2005, 01:37:24 AM »
Hi, I'm having my ACL,PCL and anterior cruciate Ligament reconstruct. Friday.  I'm really scared because although I have one of the best os surgery doc's around here he sure painted a bleak picture of the results.
My question is: How often does an infection occur?  What type of pain meds are prescribed?

Betsy,

Good luck with your surgery on Friday!  Those informed consent forms can make you stop and think, do I really want to do this.  the risks laid out in that form are to let you know what MIGHT happen, infection etc are really quite rare.  Most OSs infection rates are below 1%.  Ask what your OS's rate is if you're concerned.

Pain meds, it depends on you and the OS; but typically it will be some type of narcotic pain med.  Stay ahead of the pain; take the meds on schedule for the first few days.  Don't forget RICE!

I'll be thinking about you on Friday.  GOOD LUCK!

Betsy....Good luck on Friday. I am sure everything will go just fine. As far as infection goes, they stay ahead of that by starting you on antibiotics immediately. Just try and stay relaxed, as hard as that may seem right now. Stay ahead of the pain. and RICE. Let us know how everything goes....

Thanks for the positive words!  I'm trying to stay realistic and stop the "What Ifs"  not good.  I still have my freak-out moments and call my husband at work.  This guy deserves some kind of medal...he is so patient with me.  I wonder what he's really thinking.
