what did i injure?
« on: October 27, 2005, 10:47:25 PM »
i am a bowler. very active tournaments and leauge. im 55 and cant stop bowling now. but i have injured my knee. if anyone can help with a diagnosis, it would be appreciated. throughout my bowling life, at least i remember when i was 25 or so, my knee would sometimes bother me on the inside(sliding leg) about halfway thru the knee. if i touched my knees together, the sore spot would touch the other knee in the same place. it was always a minor inconvenience. letting it rest or i used a wrap type knee brace and it would help, though it hindered the activity.recently, it came back again. the aggravation comes when i slide, balanced on left leg with knee bent, aka bowlers finish. monday evening while making a shot, while at the line in the bowlers finish position, i heard a pop, the knee "gave away" a bit and was painful.the only static pain i have now, 3 days later, is slightly above the kneecap, 3 inches, halfway down the shin bone, both in the front center. behind the knee all across the back.walking cause no problem. the most pain is experienced when i bend my knee with weight on it, simple bending causes no discomfort at all, but when the weight is added it shows up immediately. i have read info on different sites and i cant decide what happened. help if you can..thanks  to all
Larry

You really need to have it checked by an OS that specializes in knees. NO one here can really give you a diagnosis based on things that you tell us. It could be several different things. The pop is the most concerning to me. I would have it checked.
good luck

definitely get to an OS asap. my injury began with a pop and very little pain, then I ran around on my knee for a week and boy am I sorry! I am in the middle of a 4-6 month recovery period: limited walking, avoid stairs, avoid standing, can't do much of anything that doesn't involve sitting with my leg propped up. (mine was a partial dislocation that resulted in a bone bruise on the head of my femur.)

so, get to the OS asap! in the meantime, stay off your feet as much as possible and RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation).
8/1/05-loud pop in left knee during dance class, no pain
8/6-ignored my knee for days, causing pain
8/11-OS knee specialist
9/19-no better, full imaging tests
9/26-diag: partial dislocation of patella, popped back & caused bone bruise - 4-6 month recovery period
11/15-getting more mobile...finally

None of us are qualified to make diagnosis.  Please see a doctor and then let us know what he/she says, then those of us who have had simular injuries can support you.
