knee pain from hamstring ACL reconstruction
« on: October 18, 2005, 05:38:40 AM »
I am 5 months post op from an ACL revision but my knee still feels unstable.  I stepped on it funny about 4 months post op and it hurt pretty bad for a week.. That makes me wonder if it is fixed right or if something is still wrong.  When I push on my lower leg at certain angles I still feel pain in my ACL.

Should I still be having pain after 5 months?  I can run and lift pretty heavy weights with it but when I step on it in certain angles then I can really feel the strain on my ACL.  Is this normal?

Joe,
Mine is the same and Im at 5 and a half months.  Some days it is quite sore and others I forget all about it.  It is still a bit tender at times, although I can pivot ok.  Some people take a bit longer to get over the reco then others.  If you are really worried, go and see your Os and talk to them about it.  But it sounds pretty normal to me.

I maybe a little paranoid since this is my second one to this knee.  I just know that some athletes are back after 6 months and I'm not sure I would be ready in 9 months.

Hello there,
I'm at 8 months post-op and while I'm experiencing a new problem regarding my knee, I'm pretty sure that what you are feeling is normal.  At 5 months I still had pain, especially after doing specific exercises, or just being on it more than usual. If I ever was unsure about things, I contacted my PT before my OS. Usually they can clear up any questions, or just give you peace of mind knowing someone looked at it. Best of luck!

Rip,
Do you feel like you are 100% at this point as far as your ACL is concerned?  Are you confident that it would hold up as well as before you tore it at this point?  or do you think it would take some more time.  I know you mentioned you had other problems with it but I'm just speaking in terms of your ACL.
