Please Help
« on: October 01, 2005, 07:50:14 PM »
Can anyone offer me some advice or tips.

The symptoms began after RTA at the begging of June i was hit from behind by a lorry but i have no definate idea as to the cause of this injury.

I have injured both knees however my left is far worse than my right. My symptoms are Knees Lock and click alot and below the knee there is a throbbing pain.

I have been to Physio where at the beginning they said that i had poor tracking because the muscles on the outside of my legs were in spasm however after weeks of going to Physio symptoms are getting worse and i have difficulty walking etc.

I then saw a specialist who said the knee cap is sitting at an angle and the knee cap is squeaking when he moves it.  He recommends i have an MRI scan which i am going to have done.

But i still have no idea as to exactley what the problem is its so frustrating.

Could it be a ruptured patellar tendon that could be causing this?
Will a MRI be able to tell exactley what the problem is?

Any suggestions, experiences, advice or tips greatly appreciated.

Hi Christina,

An MRI scan may well show up exactly what's wrong with your knees but may also come back clear. You could also ask for an ultrasound scan to improve your chances of having the exact problem idetified. You've not said if you were taken to hospital after your RTA. Were any x-rays taken? Are you absolutely sure there no injury to the bone?
If you started having problems in June then 3 months down the line, your symptoms shouldn't be getting worse. Either it should've got better on its own, purely as a result of time, or you should have received relevant treatment for it to find out whats wrong and deal with it.
I don't have any suggetion s as to what could be wrong as your symptoms cover a multiude of disorders. I know its frustrating, but I think you may just have to wait for the MRI results and take it from there.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you for your reply

I have been to A&E (X-Ray x 2 both times clear) on several occassions and they dont seem overly concerned they give me strong painkillers and says go to you GP, the GP then says see a specialist (NHS Wait) 2 months, Specialist then says MRI (NHS Wait) 6 months, therefore i have decided to go private to see the specialist which was last week then MRI which is planned for Monday.  I find it frustrating as physio says do certain exercises but how can they say what exercises to do if they dont know the problem, surely therefore by doing the exercises potentially i could be making the issue worse!
