Bone bruise, time to heal
« on: September 30, 2005, 10:37:13 PM »
Hello. I was recently diagnosed with a bone bruise on the head of my femur, due to a partial dislocation of my kneecap. OS told me 4-6 months for recovery. I'm looking for stories from others of how long it took you to regain some mobility and what kinds of excercises and stretching are good. Thanks!
8/1/05-loud pop in left knee during dance class, no pain
8/6-ignored my knee for days, causing pain
8/11-OS knee specialist
9/19-no better, full imaging tests
9/26-diag: partial dislocation of patella, popped back & caused bone bruise - 4-6 month recovery period
11/15-getting more mobile...finally

I bruised the bottom of my Femur when I hurt my knee too. You can't really put a time limit on how long it'll take to heal up because it depends on how badly the bone has been bruised and how you look after it.

Mine could still be bruised it's just not giving me any trouble. About 12 weeks after I'd hurt my knee it started to feel better and it didn't hurt too badly so I was pretty mobile.

I would suggest maybe some light cycling and and just see how that goes.

thanks very much for the reply. I am planning to get to the gym to use the stationary bike and my OS also said to try swimming. my current problem is that I don't have transportation since I can't drive but I am working on that. I'd love to be moving around at 12 weeks. I am at about 8 weeks now and I'm noticing some improvement, though I am still slow and limpy getting around and I can't stand or walk around for too long without feeling the effects on my knee. I'll be happy when I can walk around the grocery store and go upstairs using both, rather than just one, leg. good luck with your recovery!
