allograft safety
« on: September 20, 2005, 08:12:48 PM »
Anyone know anything about the safety of allografts for mosaic sugery for catriledge defect? As safe as a blood transfusion?  I have been told my defect is too big for a graft of my own, that allograft is the only way to go, but I am nervous about Hepatitis B or C, HIV etc.  Kelsay

All the grafts are tested and tested again for diseases.

I have a family history of organ rejection and I was told with my allografts not to worry as there is no blood supply to the cartilage. This is why they do not need to have a donor match for the allograft.

Hope this helped a bit
