What now, 13 weeks post LR and still in pain?
« on: September 07, 2005, 03:08:38 AM »
I had a LR with patella shaving 13 weeks ago and am in worse pain now then I was before the
surgery. My knee gives out on me for no reason and I have now fallen directly on the knee twice
from it giving out on me. I have been in PT and doing everything and now I don't know what
else to do.. I see my OS this week. I just feel frustrated I am afraid to carry my baby down the
stairs because my knee may give out on me. Any advice would be wonderful. Thank You in Advance!

This is a difficult one. There are a number of  possibilities -

1. Insufficient rehab and build up of quads/hams

2. Insufficient patellar mobilizations, with scarring and re-tightening of the lateral retinaculum.

3. Over zealous lateral release extending too far proximally into the vastus lateralis muscle, leading to incompetence of the extensor mechanism.

4. Lateral release done for the wrong reasons
