recovery from hardware removal
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:13:56 AM »
I tore my ACL and had a hamstring graft about 18 months ago.  Had my screw removed a couple of weeks ago.  My shin still aches, still swelling and my knee doesn't feel stable.  Any one know if this is normal?  How long to return to sports?

I think it's normal. I have 2 screws in my shin from a patella tendon graft thing about 2 years ago now and it is still really tender if anything hits it. I reckon it's just a sensitive area although if your knee feels really un-stable maybe you should tell the Dr?  But then when you can get back to playing sports n stuff you will strength your muscles which will hold your knee in the right spot.  This is exactly why I chose to leave my screws in.

good luck
Jo
