Should I have the MRI afterall?
« on: July 01, 2005, 03:24:48 PM »
I got a call from the hospital this morning telling me that I have to pay for the entire price of the MRI that I am scheduled to have Tuesday. I have new insurance and it is terrible.
For those who dont know, I tore something in my knee last Friday. I hope that it was only scar tissue. My knee is still painful but not horrible (it is always painful but a little worse since this accident) I just hate to write that huge check and then find out that it was nothing but scar tissue.
What do you guys think? Should I go ahead with the MRI or wait it out and see if the knee feels better?  I am really torn on this one (no pun intended).
Advice please?

thanks

Missy !!

If your knee feels stable, well as normal as it usally are and will not give away or lock, I would give it a week or so. Just be carefull,ok ?

Nettan, my knee gives way everyday, on average 3 times a day. That is normal for me LOL. My knee is more sore than usual but I just dont know what to do. I may just wait over the weekend and see how it feels on MOnday and then cancel if it feels better.

Doesn't sound normal for anyone to have a knee give out daily, you can do your own physical therapy and simple exercises to strengthen it...insurance companies can suck big time, and medical expenses are way over the top in this country.  My co-pay for my MRI was in the hundreds, and that's with insurance coverage!  Give the leg a rest, try not to make it worse. Find another insurance company in case you do need anthroscopy or the like down the line.  Good luck, I feel for anyone with knee problems, since I've had enough myself, and medical expenses are a drag.  D.

Durga, I have done pt for years now. My left knee is just a mess. I have a high deductable, plus insurance on pays 70% after that. I have had 7 surgeries in the last 3yrs with another insurance company. My bills are HUGE. We have to stay with this insurance because I cant work and it is my husband's company's insurance.

we have no idea why my knee continues to give way but i am used to it now lol.

well, if youdont know exactly why this sort of thing is happening daily, maybe it wouldnt hurt to get the MRI.  When it comes to that sort of thing, you probably shouldnt wait it out any longer than you have.  Hope everything goes well
