What could I have torn?
« on: June 28, 2005, 11:56:07 PM »
Friday, I was standing in the surf at the beach watching my nephew build sand castles. I was in 3 inches of water, just standing with both legs straight. When the surf went out, it took some sand out from under my foot and something in my bad knee tore. It was not a pop, it was a tearing sensation. If it were the meniscus, would I not have a catching sensation? or locking? The spot got very red and swollen but has since gone down. I dont think that I damaged my fibrocart. on the MFC because I am not having bone pain. Hubby thinks that it was scar tissue tearing. I saw my GP today and have an MRI scheduled for July 5th to see what is what.
does anyone have any ideas what I might have done? What does a torn meniscus feel like?
My knee is very painful to the touch on the medial side. Ideas everyone?

thanks missy

missy!!
well ive torn my meniscus and didnt hear anything pop or tear eather. you might not have catching or locking, it just depends. Sometimes if the meniscus is flapped over into the joint then you might hear a "pop" or it might lock. But mine didnt. ok have a couple of questions for ya:

1. hurt to bend or extend or both?

2. can you put weight on it?

I tore my lateral meniscus and it hurts extremely bad to bend it or extend it. and im just wondering if your walking on it not that it really matters as i am walking on mine but with a lot of pain.

Hope this helps some!!!! ;D good luck

I didnt HEAR anything, I FELT IT TEAR. no popping sound at all. I can walk on it but it does hurt. Bending it hurts but extention isnt bad. It is really sore tonite. I still hope that it was only scar tissue tearing but I do realize that I might not be that lucky.
thanks for the response.

Missy,

I hope that it was only scar tissue too. And hope that something shows up on your MRI, but take into consideration that MRI's dont show everything i know from experience :( try RICE and i hope that you get some relief soon!!!!
Good luck and let me know how it goes with the MRI!!!

For me it sounds like you broke a part of scar tissue. I have felt like this myself and this wasn't a meniscus tear. I have also had meniscus tears and it doesn't sound like that on your description. You have to be careful Missy !! I know it's easier said then done, just take a look at myself and I'm not careful at all. Living life 100% and also get problems, but hey come one you live here and now !!
Hope you haven't done any damage on your knee.
