I was 33 when I had both of my PKR's - I am completely satisfied & would highly recommend them!  I am nearly 1 year post-op with my first replacement & have not had any problems.

Just out of curiousity Amy1 - are you considering having this procedure done or just doing some sort of research?

Had my left knee replacement 5 mos ago. I had 122 degrees flexion 2 weeks post op and now have 130. I don't have any of the pain I had before surgery but have had pain to the back of my knee and tendon snapping......annoyances. I was finally able to ride mountain bike for first ime in 5 yrs at 4 mos post op. I was 48 yrs old when I had it done. I see my doc for 6 mos check and will ask if the back knee pain and snapping is anything to be concerned about. TKR surgery should not be entered in lightly as it is major surgery and a brutal rehab.

I am using Dr. Grelsemer.  He wants to try a less invasive surgery first. He would do  lateral release, medial plication and clean the bone spurs out.  Apparently there is an area that seems to have good cartlidge left for him to reposition the knee cap over.  If the tracking is improved then I should realize some pain reduction and a more stable knee- no buckling. Even if I am not pain free, it should improve symptoms enough to give me a better quality of life than I currently have. He said that the surgery would most likely last 5-7 years at which time, I would definitely need a TKR.  Age wise, I am on the cusp for TKR so if we could wait awhile, all the better.

Had PKRs both knees 7 months ago at age 49.  I consider the surgery a success.  Still some pain, but nowhere near what I had prior to surgery.  Would do it again and would recommend it based on my experience!  Kath
