Kayla's TTT/MPFL
« on: June 17, 2005, 12:14:31 AM »
Ok ya'll, I am home, and God does it feel good.

Wed. morning I arrived at the hospital at 5:15am, met with the anasthesoligist(sp?) at close to 6, then my OS around 6:45.

I was in the OR by 7, OS said the surgery lasted close to 7 hours, and he found way more than he expected. I remember waking up in the recovery room, at that point they were putting in a nerve block. I was admitted overnight... my OS's nurse thought I should have stayed tonight as well but he wanted me to come home and here I am.

I saw the PT this morning... she was showing me how to go upstairs on crutches but it didn't work out very well,  I fell on the first step and then gave up. I am NWB for 12 weeks as of right now, go back to OS Monday to get the dressings changed. Ummm, thats all I can remember right now, I will update again as soon as I am in my right mind.

Take care,
Kayla

Kayla,

Glad that you are home.  Make sure you keep up with your meds and ice & elevate.

Try to get loads of rest.

Yeah...those stairs don't mix well with nerve blocks.  I went up on my tush since my husband and his best friend had to carry me up the cement stairs to the house.  I TOLD those idiots at the hospital that I couldn't manage stairs.  Hubby was afraid I was going to break my ankle since I couldn't tell that my foot was all twisted.

Glad to hear that things went well, Kayla.  Keep us posted...I'm eager to compare notes with you.

Peace and blessings,
Jen

Yeh, stairs suck lol. My dad was nice enough to make a ramp to go over the steps outside so I can get in and out of the house a little easier.

I have been popping pain meds like candy today, and the crappy ice pack the hospital gave me started leaking so I guess that means I need to go get a new one.  I go to get the dressings changed Monday, I can't wait to see what my knee looks like.

Hope all is well with you guys.

Hi Kayla,

Glad to hear your surgery went well. Stairs + nerve block definitely don't mix. I still go up the stairs by sitting down and using my arms to push myself, lol. Anyways....good luck with everything!

I just got home from my dressing change, I managed to get a few pictures. I go back to the OS Friday to get the stitches removed and then start PT on Monday.  I can bend to almost 50 degrees, but it's a fight.

Here are the pics I got.

Scarlit_sky,

Ouch, looks swelled and sore....You should feel much better after you have the stitches removed on Friday.  Everything sounds good so far and you will feel tired and sore after PT, but will also feel good that you are starting your rehab.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Sending hugs,

Shade

Well, the stitches came out today, OS was shocked when he saw I can already bend to 90 degrees. He still said NWB for 8 weeks though, which really sucks because the day that I am able to start PWB, is the day I go back to school.

I managed to crutch around the neighborhood earlier this morning, but was pooped by the time I got back home.

Hope everyone else is doing well,
Kayla

Kayla,

Hey, that must feel much better to get the stitches out.  Good for you getting to 90%.

Hang in there, you are doing really well.  Try not to overdo it...

Know that is easier said than done.

Family came down from out of state today, my older sister and I went shopping today and from my thigh to my foot is HUGE now... I guess I kinda overdid it today.  I went ahead and got my uniforms for school this year, it was  impossible to find pants that fit over the brace I am stuck in, so I am stuck wearing it outside my pants I guess, whether the school likes it or not.

ROM is now up to 105 degrees, my OS said the hardest part of recovery is getting ROM back, if this is the hardest I guess everything else is gonna be a breeze lol.

Well, I just wanted to update
Hope everyone is doing well,
Kayla

Kayla,

WOW, you are doing terrific.  Sounds like you did overdo the shopping part abit, but a little ice and elevation should look after all that.

You certainly are getting your ROM back really fast - that is just terrific.

Have a good weekend.
