Ready To Rip Out My Hair!!
« on: June 06, 2005, 08:43:37 PM »
Aarrrggggg! I am getting so fed up with everything regarding the waiting lists in Canada. The story, i was told urgent by my OS(6 month wait), later told elective(41 month wait)by the surgical waitline, changed to urgent(surgery be june or july)by OS's assistant in may, now called surgical waitline and semi-urgent, 7 month wait from may 19!! What the h**l is going on?! Sorry i am just getting so tired of this whole thing, and really don't know how much more i can put up with. I was going to call my OS's office and try to sort this out yet again, but right now i am in tears i am so frustrated, and maybe will get my mom to call when she gets home from work. I am on such a rollercoaster of emotions one day to the next, and who knows what will happen tomorrow. I don't even know anymore. I have been so nervous for surgery, but the way that things are going, who knows when i will get in, and i have been to worried about the waiting list, to get super nervous for surgery. I wish for one day that the surgical waiting list people had to live in a person waiting for surgery's shoes(doesn't matter what surgery waiting for, just anything). They are like robots and will not answer any questions you ask, just repeat what is on their screen. Sorry, i am frustrated, not really thinking things through right now. Really i don't wish this knee stuff on anybody, i am just so tired of everything and want it dealt with. It is just so frustrating to not be able to do anything because of my knee, i take narcotics painkillers 4 times a day, naprosyn 3 times a day, and still there are some nights i lay awake because the pain will not go away. This is ridiculous. Sorry that this post is filled with anger, i am so frustrated and just got off the phone, maybe i will go for a walk and things will come into focus more, and then i can call my OS office. Sorry again,
Leah

we all hear you.  sh*tty knees suck!

I hope you find a surgeon who can help you soon.  No one should be on medications when an alternative is available.

Stay strong and realize there are a lot of us out there comiserating with you.

Leah,

You are getting the line that I received also, but then I called at just the right time and got a date and it was not a long wait.

Think it might be good if your mom called, maybe that might help.

Know the frustration that you feel - it is just horrible to have to wait and know that the wait is hurting your knees more.

Hugs,

Shade

That is absolutely ridiculous. You wouldn't be able to stop me from going into a blind rage were I told I had to wait months upon months for surgery. Quite frankly, I'm baffled by this. I didn't realize that Canada's healthcare was in such a horrible shape. I knew that a socialist healthcare system wouldn't be faring well, but I never expected something as ridiculous as this.

In either case, good luck.

Well i went for a short walk, made some brownies(mmmm....chocolate makes everything better  ;) ), and then my mom got home from work. I explained my phone call to the surgical waitline and the results of that phone call, while my mom became more and more frustrated. My mom is going to be calling my OS office tomorrow to see what the heck is going on now. It seems that she is getting more results than i am, so i am hopeful things are all sorted out tomorrow! I am hoping that there is a mix-up, and i am still going to be getting a date in the next little while. Thanks for the replies!!

Hi Leah...I don't know what province you are from...I live in Ontario and had to wait almost a year just to see an OS and then another 5 months once he referred me to a second OS.  It's a fact of life here, and very frustrating.  However, when I read posts from kneegeeks in other countries about not having the choice of doctor or surgeon because of insurance reasons, I realize that every country has shortfalls in their healthcare system.  We are lucky that we simply need a referral from our family physician for any specialized doctor in the country.

Hopefully your Mom can make progress with the OS office and perhaps get you a surgery date sooner than later!  Good luck..let us know how it goes...Kath

Hi Leah,

I am soo sorry for the trouble u are having at the moment, as it is hard to get things done when u or everyone else wants and I have been thru this feeling of frustration also and still am waiting but not for long.

I am in Australia and if I did not have health insurance and went with the government system it is a staggering 5 years waiting list to get my knees done and then still there are no guarantees

When I last saw my OS he said it would be a four month wait for my ops and that is with health insurance . He was apologetic to me at this time, and I said I have waited this long whats 4 months but I am not prepare to wait 5 years as some others have to without insurance, I just feel so helpless that the other people who are in the same situation cannot afford to pay health insurance have to suffer in pain, what's the world coming to and its not just health its everything just to see a dentist on the government scheme is 2 1/2 year waiting list its terrible, the politicians give themselves large amounts of wage increases and spend money like its no tomorrow but the people who actually pay their taxes get very little in return - like leah that is my beef for the day, but I am on the good side of the fence,  good luck leah in your quest for happiness.

Hugs
