yet another post op question.....
« on: May 16, 2005, 04:15:01 AM »
Hey all...I have another question. I am now about 2 1/2 weeks post op from my arthroscopy. I feel like I have a knot behind my knee, and also in my calf.I cannot feel it with my hand, but when I move my knee, thats how it feels. I have only had one day of PT, so cant blame it on that. Anyone experience this? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks...

Hi
I just read your earlier post too.

For what it's worth, I think that whatever happens, you need PT to build up strength. You definitely want some muscle support in there and you don't want your lack of muscle tone to be a convenient explanation for your knee problems.

BUT...  it sounds like you are thinking of a second opinion. I say, what harm can that do?? A new KNEE SPECIALIST may look at your MRI with fresh eyes and listen to your symptoms more carefully, because he won't have preconcieved ideas about your knee.

I hope you get some answers soon. I recently had a scope too and the PT and OS disagree over stuff.

Keep smiling

Thanks Donna. I know I definitely need to rebuild strength. I know I am very weak, and my leg is sort of jello like. I guess I am just concerned about what the main problem is, which is causing all of this. I guess I should wait and see  what PT does for me. It just really makes me wonder when the diagnoses goes from one thing to another with each OS visit. But I guess thats not uncommon with knees. Anyways, thanks for your post. Sometimes I feel like I am going stir crazy with all of this, but it helps to know that there are others feeling the same way. Hope you have a good day....

I have the same problem on the tendon that runs behind my hamstring.  It gets sore along with my ankle.  My PT told me the leg muscles are trying to make up for the knee instability and they can get tired.  He assures me it will go away as I strengthen the leg.   If you have a lot of generalized pain over the entire knee and you have swelling, that might be inflammation causing some of the pain.

In regards to the swelling, my knee swelled quite badly.  I returned to see my doctor 5 days after surgery and they removed quite a bit of fluid from my knee.  You might need that done.  Real quick test, if you push into the swelling and it gives away like jello, you probably have to much fluid on your knee.  You will have swelling, but it should feel like a soft muscle or pushing on an old tennis ball?
