Next appt. on Friday....
« on: April 14, 2005, 03:39:56 AM »
Hi everyone!! Just thought I would give an update. I had a closed MRI on Sunday, and go back to the OS on Friday. I am hoping and praying that this one shows whats wrong with my knee. It has been 3 1/2 months since my injury, and still no answers. Pain is still the same, and seems to be including a wider area now. :-\ I just want to feel better!! Im sure you all can relate to that. I hope all of you are having better days. Thanks again for letting me vent.

Donna, I will be thinking of you. Yes it's really frustrating to go and wait when you have pain and don't know what's wrong. I hope your doc finds what's wrong on your MRI.
Hugs and good wishes from me

Good luck Donna, if this OS does not find out what is wrong, go for a second opinion, it took me 3 OSs before we found out what was wrong with me. I had heard the live with it speach enough, I went elsewhere.

good luck and keep us posted

Donna,

Good luck on Friday.  I hope that he can tell you what is wrong with your knee.  If he's still at a loss please, please get a 2nd opinion from an OS that specializes in knees.

Donna,

Know what you mean, hope that all goes well on Friday.  Remember to get the girls in xray to make a copy of your MRI on a cd disk for you so you'll have it if needed later on.

Good luck on Friday.

Thank you so much everyone!! Its really weird, wanting the OS to see something on the MRI. I mean, who really wants any type of problem to be seen on an MRI, right? But, as  people with knee problems, I am sure you can all relate to what I mean. My knee pain is horrific.I just want some relief. They have been prolonging everything until "they know for sure". I am just so tired of hearing "you definitely have a problem under your kneecap". Or, maybe a nerve got damaged when you twisted and thats why your toes and foot tingle. I dont want "maybes" or" it could bes" anymore. I want answers. Definite answers. From what I understand, MRI's arent always accurate either. A relative of a friend of mine, was just recently told that her MRI said she had a torn meniscus and went to surgery. When the OS got in there, guess what? No torn meniscus. So he cleaned everything out while he was in there, put her on crutches for 2 weeks, with therapy prescribed afterwards. Everyone tells me, I would probably be better off if he went in there with a scope and looked to see what the problem is. Since this is all fairly new to me, and I have never had any knee procedures done, I dont know. I already told workmans comp, that if I dont get answers at this appointment, or at least a game plan to find out, I want to see a knee specialist. All I keep thinking is, the longer he plays around with this, the worse my knee could be getting.  :'(  Anyways, thanks again so much for all of your support. I wish you all better knee days too!!

Well....here are the results.

Impression:
1. Patellar subluxation with chondromalacia patellae
2. Medial and lateral meniscal tears

COMMENT:  The patella appears to be subluxed superiorly and there is evidence of chrondromalacial patellae along the femoral catrilaginous. The rest of the patella is not sitting in the patella groove in a normal fashion and there is a small focus of increased signal in the patella itself either representing a cyst or possibly some subchrondral bone bruising. There is only a very small amount of effusion present but there is fluid tracking along the lateral knee joint deep to the ileotibial band. Abnormal signal in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus is noted probably representing a combination of a tear and mucoid degeneration and suggesting a tear. On the axial views there is a small amount of fluid that tracks from the posterior portion of the medial meniscus into the patella fossa where there is a small meniscal cyst measuring less than a cm. On the coronal images, there does not appear to be any impaction fracture of bone bruising. There is however, some early joint space narrowing.

Orthoscopic surgery is scheduled for April 28th. All doc told me is there is possibly some torn cartilage, and a possible bruise to my kneecap. Also said there is something showing under the kneecap and he is hoping I havent taken a huge chunk out of it, or that will be another story. Says he hopes to be able to do everything orthoscopically. After reading this report, however, I think he left a few things out when he was talking to me, such as the patella subluxing. I have been saying all this time that it feels like something is moving in there. I could tell when he was talking to me that he thought there was quite a few problems in there. Just thought I would share this report and get some input from you guys.I do feel relieve that this MRI actually showed the problem(s). However, is  troubling to know that the first MRI showed absolutely nothing. :-\ Let me know what all of you think.....Thanks....
