Sorry I'm slightly off subject!
« on: January 02, 2003, 01:36:45 AM »
I apologise straight away for being off subject here, but I'm really hoping someone in the HMS area can give me some advice.

I have to have my middle (MCP) thumb joint removed and fused in February due to the recurrent dislocations and was just wondering if anyone here had had or knows someone who has had fusion surgery done.  ???

I basically know what it entails but my OS hasn't been overly forthcoming in answering my queries about the op and it's after effects and I've struggled to find much info about it online too. And I have to confess that I'm getting a little anxious about how much mobility I will lose and success rates etc...

Thanks in advance of any help and sorry again for straying!  ::)

Love.....Jo

JO try the HMS Bulletin Boards at
http://www.ori.org.au/bonejoint/shoulder/contents.htm,
http://www.marge.com/hypermobility/
http://members.boardhost.com/ceda/
http://members4.boardhost.com/ehlers-danlos/

as all of these people have HMS at least and most have EDS etc. I am sure soemone has had or knows of someone who has had similar surgery.

Hope this helps JO

I personally haven't had or know of anyone with a HMS who has had it done.

Hi Jo
I'm sorry I do not know anything about thumbs but I do hope your surgery goes well. All the best.

Thank you all for your support, it's much apprecaited. I think I'm just going through my usual pre-op panic, where I become obsessed with needing to know absolutely everything to do with the procedure short of what colour socks the surgeons wearing! ;)

The web links are great, I don't know why but I just couldn't find a thing other than veterinary stuff when I looked! I found the hand university one really helpful thanks M as although it's about the joint below mine it's basically the same thing.

Cheers again for the help and support for this particular little scaredy cat!  ;D
