Is it RSD
« on: February 28, 2005, 01:54:43 AM »
I have had knee pain for about a year after falling and twisting it now my pt says that my kneecap tracks laterally. My OS thinks it is RSD but I don't It is purplish in just one tiny area and my OS says that that is RSD but my other doctor said that that was from an injection. I also sprained my ankle a couple months ago and from what i've read is I had RSD it would have spread to my ankle too. So would this be considered RSD

My experience with RSD is that it all turns purple. Does the one spot stay purple all the time? I've been dealing with RSD since I was around 9 yrs old and I've learned that i can tell when its RSD pain and when its injury pain.  I've been through more sports med docs, OSs, PTs, pediatric specialists, Health Sciences Univeristies and Shriners Children hospitals. Somewhere out there is a doc who will listen and figure it out. Hang in there!!!

Hey !!

I have RSD but all doesn't turn purple on me just my toes and a bite of the foot and I have my pain in the knee.Has your doc made tests on you to confirm that it is RSD ?
If you have a new injury, RSD doesn't necessery spread to that area.
Let your doc run rights tests for you before you think it is RSD.
Good luck to you !! Feel free mail me if you have questions.

I have RSD as well diagnosed in June 2001 after TTT and complications. Anyway, No 2 cases of RSD are the same, some have small spots of discoloration others their whole limb. RSD does not ALWAYS spread due to another injury. It really is that different for each person.   I have made it a point of learning alot about RSD, I have even attended 2 RSD conferences in the US in the past few years.

My RSD was diagnosed by a three phase bone scan and lumbar sympathethic blocks.  If you need more inof a great RSD site is www.rsdhope.org.

open lateral release 10/85, various scopes 1994-1998 for debridement, medial release 11/98,  TTT(Fulkerson)& lateral release 11/30/99, screw removal 6/27/00, tibial repair 2/13/01, dx RSD 6/25/01
