Help after Meniscotomy Op please - new member
« on: February 25, 2005, 08:56:49 PM »
Hi all
This is my first post, im 38, male, from England.
Have just had a meniscotomy done privately for a grade 2 tear to posterior horn of left medial meniscus. After op surgeon found bone bruising as well as 10% cartilage removal.
Had pain before op when kicking a ball with inside of left foot, moving leg laterally over knee joint, etc, a sudden sharp catching pain, so booked for op. Im now at 6 weeks post-op and am typing this in the same pain as before op
I started rehab with physio fine but have found knee degenerating over last 2 weeks to same pain level/type as before. Bad pain also when leg straightened under/left of kneecap, physio suspects Bursitis? Im now icing 6 times a day taking anti-inflammatories and wanting to use a stick.
Id just like to know if there is any others out there who can give me some support that it will be ok....eventually.....or any one experienced similar injury/op or have ideas why pain as bad as before op?
Hoping for some good advice/support
Thanks
Chris ;D

Hi, Mediaman
:'( I understand your frustration. I had a partial menisenectomy 9cn't spell) two weeks ago .I also have a grtade 2 MCL sprain. My pain feels worse now, than before the surgery. I also am develping a Bakers's cycst behind my right knee. Do you think your pain in the back of your knee is a cyct? I don't undestand why our recovery is not improving. Did you start physical therapy? I have just been doing a few exercises and I have increased my swelling! Did you have an MRI before surgery? I did. Pat

Well you have to remember that your meniscus was trimmed, ie cut so there is going to be trauma on it as well as scarring etc.
So that in itself is an injury to it which will require some time for it to recover.
Stick with the rehab and things should get better after the cuts heal and smoothen out.
