cortisone question
«
on:
February 23, 2005, 02:12:55 AM »
I had a cortisone shot last week and I've noticed a big decrease in pain. My question is how long can I expect this to last? I know everyone is different, but Im just wondering about everyone elses experinces.
Also, does the fact that I did have a decrease in pain mean anything in terms of where the pain was coming from. I guess what Im asking is what exactly does cortisone do??
Thanks!! ~Patti

hey PAtti, i'm glad to hear that the cortisone has given you some relief. It has anti inflammatory properties as far as I know. I had cortisone in my elbows after my first LR surgery as being on crutches for a month really agravated my tennis elbow which was caused in the beginning from riding heavy headed horses. It took away the pain for...well years really. Not that it would be the same for your knees.but with my tendonitis..it settled it down for a long time.
Hopefullyt he cortisone can help you... get some relief for awhile.
Goodluck

thanks girls! I was very suprised when cortisone helped. I still have a dull (sometimes not so dull) ache around my kneecap, but the very sharp pain behind my kneecap is almost gone. The good thing is that now Im in PT again, and with out this pain I can really work my muscles. Im crossing my fingers that this lasts!

Allways happy to hear when somebody gets some significant pain relief. I tried it but no relief. It is basically an anti inflammatory, and if the condition is being aggravated by inflammation, cortisone probably helped significantly. Unfortunately, the length of time it helps is hard to determine. Teresa
