How do you measure damage????
« on: February 18, 2005, 02:08:36 AM »
Hi all
I  finally found out yesterday that I have OA in both knees and when I am 50 I can have both replaced(I am 46 now).
But! the motorcycle accident I had accelerated this damage that was going to happen anyway because of my hypermobile joints which lead to maltracking a year before the accident.
Now the prob I have is how do I prove the accident accelerated the OA?? Could the OS help here do you think??
Any thoughts??
Hypermobility leading to maltracking and now severe damage on both FJs = OA.
Motorbike accident accelerated damage.
Awaiting TKRs when I'm 50!!

I would assume that you have had some sort of imaging of your knees to know that you have OA. Whether it is plain x-ray or MRI, you would have to compare the pre-accident and post-accident films. Ask your OS if they would be willing to testify in court if need be that there is an acceleration of the degeneration due to the accident. And get yourself a good attorney that has worked with pre-existing conditions.
Good Luck,

hi  nellypurple.
this is a tuff one,
my GP left me for approx a year with a fracture of my femer, that fragment of bone driffted into my knee joint and coused iraparable dammage, i too will need a knee replacment,
so do i look to the past and try to see if enything could of been done, i was told that if the fragment of bone had of been removed i would not had all this damage done.
With your sittuation, i would look into the matter, not sure haw to go abot it, but i would.
try your OS he may be able to help, or could but you in touch with someone who could help.
oh iv not got my helmet yet, im going to bristol in two weeks to get one,
im seeing my OS later today.
kindest wishes lasly.
