Would like advise, reassurance?
« on: January 28, 2005, 08:54:33 PM »
Hi, I'm really new at this so please be patient. I am looking at having knee surgery on the 22nd of Feb. I am scheduled to talk to my surgeon on the 17th. All I know right know is he is going to do an Arthroscopic Patella Re-alignment(?) on my left knee. I need some information or advise on what to ask him. I have done a litle bit of research but it is very confusing. I'm 28 and have had 9 knee dislocations(6 on my left knee, 3 on the right). The doctor's that have treated me over the last 6 yrs have not been a help at all. I was told it would just keep happening and there was nothing I could do but lose weight. I was carrying to much weight on my knees. I admit I am a bit over weight( 5'3", 190lbs) but I put most of the weight on after the first couple knee dislocations. I have always been athletic and active and now feel as though I am handicapped. This last time I was dancing(hiphop)and my knee just popped out, before there was always some kind of impact to make it go out. I could use some advise and would like to hear from some people about successful surgery's as I am very nervous. I see a lot of stories of failed surgery. I just don't see any other solution to my knee problems.
Numerous dislocations, both knees
 tilted patellas
LR and MR done on LK 2/22/05

Hi and welcome to the board.  It sounds like you are having a Lateral Release surgery.  That is usually done for patella tilt.  Do you have that problem?

There are many post that you can browse through regarding LR surgeries in the 'Specialist Office section' then go into the 'Patello-femoral joint section'.

Hope all goes well for you.  ;)
