TKR in Cincinnati Wed 1/26
« on: January 23, 2005, 05:14:24 AM »
Hi Everyone

I am leaving KC on Monday ( 10 hr drive in good weather) to have a left TKR by Dr Noyes in Cincinnati. This is my 8th surgery in 4 yrs to this leg and knee. Who would ever thought that a broken distal tib fib could result in a knee replacement. Dr Noyes said my patella is too severely damaged from when I had patella baja and no other salvage procedures to be done. He might have to redo the osteotomy which means I could lose some flexion. He is very optimistic for my return to a more active life than what I have now which is zero.

I will be in the hospital 4 days. I will have to stay in Cincinnati 2 weeks to do rehab and doctor checks. It will be a tough road to recovery but I am very hopeful.

I think I am in the best hands there is to do this and get it done right.

Here's to positive thinking

Pam, good luck to you on your upcoming surgery in Cincinnati.  I have only heard good things about the team of doctors from this area.  Dr. Noyes certainly has a good reputation so you should be in the best of hands.

I hear you about the (10 hr. car drive) that is not something to look forward to at all.  I am looking at a similar distance in Feb. myself (12 hr.).  You will make it though and so will I.  Thinking about it is always worse than the drive itself.......

Let us all know how you are doing, hope the rehab goes well also!!  ;)

Good luck next week, I went all the way to see Dr Noyes in Cincinnati from England to have his opinion on my multiligament, messed up knee. It was really worthwhile and I know that you wil be in good hands.

In the end I had my 5th, 6th and 7th surgeries back in London but with Frank Noyes' advice I knew I was doing the right thing.

Thanks Shadehawk, Christy, KJ, and Janet

I saw Noyes in June for my first appt and just thought he was so nice, thorough and the best I could possibly get. You should see his preop and op instrutions....about 8 pages. I see Noyes Tuesday and meet with PT and do preadmission testing.

I really appreciate the good thoughts. I have finally gotten the family all ready and now I think I am having some time for my own thoughts and those dang butterflies !!!

The drive home will be quite a handful as I was instructed to stop every hour to give my leg some activity and circulation. A stop once every hr for 10 hrs will make for a very loooooooooooong day.

Thanks so much
