dr's 2nd opinion
« on: January 17, 2005, 08:55:25 PM »
hi all,
I ad acl recon surgery last july, and am hitting soem setbacks.

I have not been happy with the doctor so I called and made an appointment with another doctor.

The doctor's office told me , though, that since I already had a procedure with another dotor, this new doctor cannot treat me.  The best that they can do is to give a second opinion.
I have an appointment in 2 weeks and will bring my xrays and MRIs.

Is the doctors policy standard?  Or is it more of the exception?

Thanks for the feedback.

some doctor's are wary of trying to fix other doctor's problems, especially if the previous one screwed your knee up so bad they can't do much about it.

but i've seen 6 surgeons, none of them said they wouldn't be able to treat me b/c someone else had already gone in.

I had an ACL put in incorrectly by an incompetent OS.  I had a very difficult time getting another OS in my area.  Two actually refused to even see me.  I've been told they just don't want to try and fix some other Dr.s mistake.

I finally got into a dr. in my area who treated me briefly (and VERY reluctantly).  He was not able to help me because of my rare condition - arthrofibrosis.  I ultimately had to go out of state to an expert and have had 1 surgery with him so far.  I may need 1 more, but at least I have confidence that he knows what he's doing.  I'm better then I have been since the original accident last February.

Good luck finding another OS and please perservere, it will be worth it.
