HELP I'm going on my  3rd knee surgery
« on: January 14, 2005, 11:58:36 PM »
Hey guys,
I am kinda new to this but I could use some advice. I am 22 years old and I am headed towards my 3rd surgery. My patella continually "pops out" or dislocates, however it always goes back in on its own. About 5 years ago I had a MPFL done and a year after that surgery failed I had another one to correct it, and 3 screws were also put in my knee in an attempt to hold it in place.  Starting this summer  I noticed alot of pain in my knee and my kneecap seemed to be giving away 3-4 times a day. It is now to the point where I dont even have to put weight on it sometimes I just move my leg in a certain way that will make it come out. Needless to say I was told I had to have another surgery. What is next for me a TTT? I just want my problem fixed and I would like to be able to walk without a the fear that my knee is just going to give out at any moment.  :-/

Hi, I don't know if I can help but I hear you and understand you being scared.  I had a similar probelm and had a ttt done and it has helped with the dislocations.  I still get a lock sometimes  and that let go feeling. but it is better than before.  Mine was a long time ago and I know they have made a lot of improvements.  Im sure with your age they can get you fixed up.  Just make sure you have a great Ortho and that you do the phiso after to get back on track.  Lots of Luck Cid

I recognize the fact you say you only have to move it and it pops out! i had that too. It drove me crazy! Turning around in my sleep made my kneecap dislocate. I had a TTT 2.5 years ago and my kneecap still subluxes  but I have no more dislocations since and my pain is a lot less! Am happy I had the surgery! Any Qs you can post them or IM me! I had a speedy recovery, notice that most people are in therapie for months!

Good luck!

Hey guys
Thanks so much for your responses.  I guess I am to the point where I just want my knee to get better. Right now I can't even walk on it and I have to patiently wait to see the doctor on the 26th and then hopefully we can schedule my surgery for right away.

My friend has had 5 knee surgeries since June 2004.  First she had a partial knee replacement and then 3 days later a total knee replacement.  After 3 weeks, the Dr. had to go in and manipulate her knee because it was not moving.  Then about 6 weeks later, the Dr went into her knee to remove scar tissue and she had a blood clot.  All this time, since her first surgery, her knee was really red, hot, and swollen.  The Dr. didn't do anything to check for an infection.  He just told her to "give it time."  In September 2004, she went to another Dr.  He sent her to a specialist and this Dr told her that she has had an infection for quite awhile in her knee and that the parts that were in her knee DID not fit her knee and were moving around.  In Dec., they removed all the parts and put a drain tube in her knee.  She has MRSA, a staph infection in her knee.  As of today, she still has the staph infection, her knee is hot, swollen, and huge.  I have read about MRSA and this is a very hard infection to get rid of.  She has been on 3 antibiotics since Dec. but none have helped.  Now, the Drs are taking her off all antibiotics and waiting until March 2005 to do something with her knee.  Please let me know if anyone else out there has had this happen to them.  Thanks
